WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED
December 25, 2004
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was Christmas Day, December 25, 2004 and we had already celebrate our first Christmas together in our new apartment, which was special unto itself. It was the first Christmas away from our parent's homes for both of us. After celebrating together, we each went to our parent's homes to celebrate with our families. My family has a tradition of going to my maternal grandparent's house every Christmas morning, where Grandma would fix breakfast for everyone and then we would all open gifts together. Andrew arrived while in the midst of the gift-giving frenzy and after all the gifts had been open, Andrew called everyone into the living room and, as we both sat in front of the Christmas tree, he presented me with a ring box. I opened the box as my eyes misted over and found a beautiful white gold diamond engagement ring nestled within its depths. Andrew quietly asked "Holly, will you marry me?" I whispered, "Yes!" and threw my arms around him and kissed him, eyes swimming. I handed him the box so that he could slide the ring onto my finger and again we kissed and embraced. We were then surrounded by cheers, flashbulbs, and my family trying to talk to us and hug us all at the same time. It was simple and sweet. Poor Andrew was so nervous he actually handed my the ring box upside down and wasn't able to make any kind of flowery speech but I don't mind at all. It was just so special the way that he was able to include my family because I am so close to my family and I know that they were all grateful to have been able to witness it.
